At what age did you start acting?
JT: I was just 6 years old when I booked my first short film project. I was super excited to play an young girl in an orphanage in China. It was a true story, but I actually changed into an animated girl in the middle of the film! I lived in Texas then, and they flew me to Orlando to film – I knew then that being a “lead” was my goal – I loved that feeling!
What is it like being a hula dancer?
JT: Well, I was never a hula dancer before moving to Hawaii for a couple of years. I took to it immediately! I love to dance both hula and Tahitian and really enjoyed dancing at the Marriott Hotel for tourists visiting A’ulani on Oahu! I love my hula sisters and truly miss my hui.
Are you woking on any projects that you can share with us?
JT: Honestly, it has been super slow for quite awhile so no, I am not keeping any secrets right now! I’m excited for the industry to return to “normal” and for auditions to pick up again!
What do you do on your free time?
JT: I practice karate and I’m working on my brown belt. I was lucky to return to my dojo when I returned from Hawaii last spring! I also returned to my piano teacher and I’m back on the keys! I also love thrifting, and designing/upcycling!
Do you support any organizations or charities?
JT: I’ve been a supporter of Legacies of War which works to remove UXO from Laos, my birth country. It’s a serious problem that really needs more awareness and more funding.
How do you spread the love?
JT: I love sharing and interacting with younger actors, dancers, and friends. I hope to be able to give back a whole lot more, but I believe in spreading the love every day – doing the small things – even a small compliment or a smile. 🙂
Do you have a project that you enjoyed working on the most?
JTI: have to say that my favorite project was working on Henry Danger on the Mr. Nice Guy episode. It was amazing to work at Nickelodeon and meet all the actors on the Henry Danger show. The set was amazing! I worked with some other great actor friends and made a lot of memories!
Would you like to share your social media platforms with us?
JT: Sure! I mostly post on Instagram and I’d love you all to follow me! Support on this crazy journey is everything! My IG is: @joytuckofficial
